Muraco Elementary School History

When the Francis J. Muraco School first opened in 1967, it was known as the Tufts School. At that time, the concept of Open Area was new and the school became the model for Open Area Education in the Commonwealth.

The school was rededicated in 1969 as the Francis J. Muraco School, in memory of one of our neighbors who died in Vietnam. Francis J. Muraco was a Marine. Every Memorial Day the memory of Francis J. Muraco is honored in a school-wide assembly (2010 assembly video featured here). Representatives of the US Marine Corps and the family of Francis J. Muraco join us for this important tribute.
