Committees & Volunteer Opportunities

Book Fair Committee
The Book Fair Committee organizes and runs the annual Scholastic Book Fair, which supports the Muraco library.

Online Directory Committee
The Directory committee compiles and distributes the Muraco School directory, which contains teacher and staff contact information, as well as contact information for students and families.

Enrichment Committee
The Enrichment Committee coordinates the enrichment programs for the school. One or two volunteers per grade work with classroom teachers to research and book enrichment programs. The Chair coordinates the committee’s activities and serves as the liaison to the district-wide enrichment source, Community Schools Association (CSA).

Library Volunteers
Library volunteers are needed each school day morning to help shelve books and assist with other librarian support.

Facilities Enhancement & Playground Committees
The facilities enhancement and playground committees oversee the beautification and upkeep of the school grounds and playgrounds. Coordinate fall and/or spring clean-up days.

Room Parent Coordinators and Room Parents
The Coordinator ensures that each teacher has room parent volunteers. Room Parents (2 per classroom) work with teachers throughout the year to coordinate class parties and extracurricular activities.

Muraco After-School Programs (“MASP”) Coordinators
Schedules the after-school programs by coordinating with teachers, notifies community of programs, sets class rosters, handles registration, fees and instructor reimbursement.

Monthly Staff Appreciation Breakfast Committee
Coordinates volunteers to contribute breakfast foods for the staff on the first Thursday of the month. Always looking for parents to donate food to staff breakfasts.

Fifth Grade Committee
The Fifth Grade Committee coordinates the 5th Grade programs and activities for the year, such as school and staff gifts, memory book, class trip and the fundraisers to support these initiatives.

Green Team
Maintains existing green projects and implements new initiatives at the school. Some active projects are: Lunchtime Recycling, Marker Recycling through Crayola’s ColorCycle program, and Anti-Idling Campaign.

Mentoring Committee
Matches 4th and 5th grade students with a mentor in their field of interest and recruits members of the Muraco community and community-at-large to serve as mentors.

Grants Committee
The Grants Committee identifies potential grants and writes grant applications on behalf of the Muraco staff to WFEE, Rotary, and other organizations.

Kindergarten Welcoming Committee
Coordinates summer play dates and activities to welcome incoming Kindergarten children and their families.

Newsletter Committee
Committee publishes the weekly MESPA newsletter: “Muraco Matters.”

Publicity Committee
Contacts local newspapers to arrange coverage of special events at Muraco School and submits articles and photos of Muraco events to the local newspapers.

Special Needs Committee—PAC Liaison
The Special Needs committee PAC Liaison attends meetings of the Special Education Parents Advisory Committee and updates Muraco community of issues, meetings and events.

School Committee Liaison
The School committee Liaison attends Winchester School Committee meetings and report back to the Muraco community regarding matters discussed and voted upon by the School Committee.

Webmaster
The Webmaster maintains the MESPA website.

Winchester Coalition for A Safer Community (“WCSC”) Liaison
Attend monthly Coalition meetings and serve as a liaison between the Coalition and the Muraco community.

Winchester Fund for Educational Excellence (“WFEE”) Liaison
Serve as a liaison between WFEE and MESPA.
